Synopsis : Orada (There) tells the 24-hour story of a turkish family. After his mother’s suicide, Mazhar, who was exiled to France during 12 years, comes back in Istanbul. Since their separation, Erol lives confined on an island. He is an Armenian of Istanbul who had to flee to Marseille after the 1955 pogrom against the non-Muslim communities, before returning in Turkey to redo his life. He has completely occulted his past. Synopsis

Ten-year-old Thembi and her eight-year-old brother, Khwezi, are left alone in their rural homestead when their mother dies. All they have to remember Mama is a grass mat she wove, which she aimed to enter in a craft competition. Her dream, inspired by a visit to their village by a white priest from the city, was for the mat to win a prize that could support her children. So Thembi decides to take the mat to the competition herself, and Khwezi reluctantly goes with her. When the children arrive in the city they are spotted by a street-wise 12-year-old, Chili-Bite, and his gang. He offers them a place to sleep on the street and tells her of a friend who knows the priest – who turns out to be a sleazy pimp who aims to sell this rural girl’s virginity as a cure for AIDS. It is Thembi’s relationship with Khwezi that sustains her quest to fulfill her mother’s dream. When this bond between the siblings is broken, she succumbs to the grief that has been welling up inside her since her mother’s death. In her time alone she discovers her own dream and her own talent, then is able to reconcile with her new friends from the street, and with her little brother.

IFFK organising committee formed

Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): An organising committee has been formed with Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan as chief patron for conduct of the 12th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, organisers of the event, said in a statement here on Saturday that Culture Minister M A Baby would be the president of the festival.
The festival, which has become a main event in the international film festival calendar of Federation of International Film Producers Associations, would start on December 7 and last a week.

I saw Sounds of Sand today, the film after inauguration of IKKF2006.

The Life-and-death struggle of an African family traversing a hostile desert in search of water. Marion Hansel’s Sounds of Sand is an elegiac, yet heartrending African story of displacement.

Story is based on the novel "Chamelle" by Marc Durin-Valois which won a Francophonie (French language) prize. Chamelle is the name of the camel.

Shasha (played by a delightful Asma Nouman Aden) is commendable. (walk over mines:) .

3. The filled-up form should reach The Regional Secretary, FFSI on or before the 20th November 2006.
4. Please attach one self-addressed envelope with stamps worth Rs. 5/- to receive your card by post or collect it from the FFSI office after 20th November 2006 on producing the delegate receipt.

Regulations
1. Seating in the theatre will be on a First Come First Serve basis ( if you are a VIP you may get front seat :D )
2. Children will not be allowed to the screenings. ( this is usually broken by some parents)
3. Delegates will not be permitted to enter the theatre 10 minutes after the beginning of the show. (impossible @ Kerala )
4. The delegate card holder will be eligible for admission to the inaugural and closing ceremonies.
5. The delegate card holder will be eligible for admission only to the theatre/s mentioned in the card.
6. Mobile phones should be switched off during the screening. (else expect good beatings.it happens)
7. Unauthorised photography or videography will not be allowed inside the theatre.
8. Accreditation can be cancelled in case of any misconduct from the delegate which might disturb the festival.
9. Persons below 18 years are not eligible for the delegate pass.(:D)

The International Film Festival of Kerala is a yearly event organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala. The 11th edition of IFFK will be held at Thiruvananthapuram (formerly known as Trivandrum), the capital city of Kerala in the South of India from 8th - 15th December 2006.

Competition section restricted to films produced in Asia,Africa & Latin America between Sept.2005 & August 2006

Attractive Awards :

The Golden Crow Pheasant Award
Suvarna Chakoram and a cash prize of Rs. 1,000,000/- (about US$20,000) to the best feature film to be shared equally by the director and the producer

The Silver Crow Pheasant Award
Rajata Chakoram and a cash prize of Rs. 300,000/- (about US$6,000) to the best director

Best Debut Film Award
Rajata Chakoram and a cash prize of Rs. 200,000/- (about US$ 4,000) to the best debut director.

Audience Prize
Rajata Chakoram and cash prize of Rs. 100,000 (about US$ 2,000) to the Director of the most popular film voted by the festival delegates

FIPRESCI
Award for the best film chosen by the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique.The competition section is restricted to films produced in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The films in competition have to be produced between September 1st 2003 and August 31st 2004.The main section of the festival features a selection of "World Cinema" a window on quality film production the world over. Films from other countries are eligible for entry in other sections of the festival.
